Large Mugs
Our large hand-built Arch mugs feature soft curved texture and glazes ranging from tawny brown and patchy blue to cream with delicate speckles, satin green and pale blue. The mugs hold around 350-400ml, with a balanced weight that feels comfortable in the hand. Each one is made to the same dimensions and yet also carries its own quiet character.

Our large hand-built Fern mugs are made using stoneware in a speckled clay or a white clay, resulting in slightly different variations of green. They hold a generous 350-400ml yet remain light and comfortable to hold. Each fern imprint is unique making every mug on of a kind.
The process of Hand building
Hand building is at the heart of my practice, I love the pace and connection with each of the different stages of the clay. Coiling a pot takes time and tactility. Monitoring the state of the clay drying to avoid slumping, adding texture by using handmade stamps, carving into the clay or pressing plant textures, rocks and seed pods onto its surface.
With my mugs I enjoy the process of starting and finishing a mug in continuous motion. I add a coil to the inner base as I feel this softens the join and use a terracotta plant pot to round the rim.
I also like that I can gather the shavings for future slip, the ‘scraps’ can be used for smaller objects or wedged back into workable clay.
